Pedal Powered Hacksaw Machine

It is a fine tooth hand saw with a blade under tension. It is used to cut metals and PVC pipes. It would be useful in many projects discussed on this site which used plastic pipes as materials.Blades of hacksaw are measured in TPI (Tooth Per Inch). Different TPI is needed for different jobs of cutting. Their are three types of cutters available in the market:

1. Simple hacksaw which can be used for hand cutting things.
2. Small Electrically Hacksaw for personal uses.
3. Large Cutter Machines used for Industrial Purposes.
From the above three, second one will be used for our project. In electrical hacksaw rotational motion is transformed into oscillatory motion and when we powered it with pedal energy, same transformation happens.

What are the required materials?
1.Welding Machine : To weld different component of this project
2. Electric Hacksaw : which would later connected with our system.
3.Old Bicycle : Using old bicycle will reduce amount of work required for building this project as well as allow us to focus on our objective rather then wasting our time on trivial things.
4.Crank System: It is used to convert circular motion into reciprocating motion, or vice-versa.

What is the importance of this project?
Importance of this project lies in the very fact that it is green project and helps us to reduce our electricity need. Secondly, this cutter can be used and transferred to our working place easily.  Moreover, if we want we can generate electricity with our project by connecting it to dynamo, diode and battery.

How it works?

When we pedal our bicycle, it starts rotating gear which is attached to flywheel. This gear rotational motion is then transferred into flywheel connected to crankshaft. This shaft than translates reciprocating rotational motion into linear piston motion which makes makes to and fro motion to hacksaw through shaft which eventually cuts required material .

Pedal Powered projects are very popular nowadays. Final year students are getting good grade by implementing them.
